End windows processes

Some Window Explorer settings (like those about the display settings from the Windows registry) need to restart your computer in order to take effect.

Not really. It’s much easier to just restart Windows Explorer and not your computer.

Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Escape to open Task Manager.
  2. Click on the Processes tab and press the E key on your keyboard and then select explorer.exe (1 on the image below).
  3. Now click on End Process (2 on the image below) and click again End Process in the new window (3 on the image below).
  4. Now, to restart Windows Explorer go to the File menu in the upper left and choose New Task (Run…)
  5. In the new window type explorer.exe and press OK (see the image below)
